this is for a friend's car, who has an 850. he says that the bulbu warning light goes on when ever he hits the brakes. i told him to replace the relay for the warning system like i did in my 940. then i said, "wait....dont do anything...let me check the brickboard"

should he replace the relay as is done in 940's if the sockets pump out the same current??

ok, sorry for the lack of info. here's the situation. the "bulb out" light comes on in the car when the brake pedal is pressed. all brake lights come on when the pedal is pressed. the three times he replaced theb ulbs he got them from volvo, and the problem went away the first time, then replaced them again, and it went away, and now he's on the 3rd set, and the light is coming on again. this happens when all the lights are off, when the parking lights are on, and when the headlights are on, rain or shine.
this is for a 1996 850 glt 5 cyl, n/a.
i do no know if he has an LED strip, or a bulb third brk light.

Your friend might have mismatched bulbs in his tail lights. I've seen this happen before. Its a volvo thing, it might not sound like it makes much sense.

Have uyou checked the brake lights?

When the buld warning light comes on when you hit the brakes, it means that one of the brake lights is out.

ooooh, i failed to mention that he replaced all the braking bulbs, and taillight bulbs, and blinker bulbs in the rear.....3 times!

the warning light applies to all exterior lights including the headlights. Not just brake lights. If he knows the brake lights all work then he should go around the vehicle with the headlight switch on and see if anything is burned out. Also he should try the reverse lights too (not sure if they apply)

You haven't said whether, or not, the brake lights work.

make sure you are replacing the bulbs with same make & type, sometimes having a GE on one side & a phillips on the others side causes this problem
