Help with an S80 T6 Oil Leak S80 1999

I am the recent purchaser of a 1999 S80 T6 with about 73k miles. My wife and I love the car. It rides smoothe and has the feel of a luxury car with sports car horsepower. When we bought the car, I knew it had an oil leak. I am no mechanic, but I work on cars myself, so I figured no big deal. I looked into it before purchasing and found the dipstick cracked and some oil leaking from both turbo oil return lines. I replaced the dipstick and the oil return line seals and most of the leak is gone. Now I have a leak from the front of the engine that slowly leaks down and drips off of the oil filter plastic cover. I replace the gasket on the cover, but still leaks and it appears to be coming from somewhere above the cover. With the intake manifold other things there it is impossible to see. Can someone help with suggestions or possibly what might be leaking leak before I tear the entire front of the engine apart. Any web sites that show the schematic of the engine front.
Thanks in advance

    Help with an S80 T6 Oil Leak S80 1999

The Probem sounds similar to my 99 S80 T6 oil leak that I just recently fixed. Mine was the front mounted oil cooler In which I had to replace along wit all of the gaskets. Also dont pull up to concrete parking stop to close the cooler hangs down low enough to be damaged when doing this.

The two most common oil leaks on those are turbo drain tube o-rings and the breather box seal, under intake manifold. To fix that, you need to remove the intake manifold and there's a kit with a new seal and related hose clamps. The job pays 3.5 hrs.

Thanks for the reply ... I suspect the breather box is the problem, but I was hoping to get by without taking the intake manifold off.
      Thanks again

        A tip..... S80 1999

We do those often, another just today SO I'll be nice and give you a tip BEFORE you try tearing into it. There's a TSB on this proceedure which mentions the kit with all the hose clamps, seal and intake gasket and you NEED a special tool to loosen ONE bolt. The bolt on the left side of that breather box needs the tool which is an offset 10mm wrench/socket extension and it's needed because the main bracket that holds all the driven accesories (alt, PS pump, AC comp) is in the way and you can't get a normal socket on it.

I'm telling you this so you don't try this before knowing as otherwise you'll be saying several bad words. You can either order that special wrench through a dealer, pay them to do the job or try your luck improvising?

You sound like you're on the track of the leak. Did I understand that you replaced the oil filter o-ring and still see oil at that end of the engine. There is a known problem with oil pump external screws leaking oil on the 99s and a factory bulletin with a relatively simple fix. I think it's under the accessory drive belt pulley. The oil pump is just above the filter at that end of the engine. Hard to see with all the belts and pulleys in the way. FWIW, replace the oil filler gasket too.

Thanks for the reply ... I appreciate the feedback. I think the leak is coming from the front of the engine under the intake. I will keep the external screw leak in mind when looking at everything. You also nailed another problem that I found with the oil filler gasket. It was a mess.
Any idea where I can view the factory bulletins or get good diagrams of the engine?
      Thanks again
