Antifreeze Flush V70-XC70 2001

Can anyone comment on a procedure to ensure all of the coolant drains from the radiator, heater and engine?

I perform all of my own routine maintenance and decided to flush the antifreeze coolant as recommended by my Volvo dealership and the Chilton's manual. According to Chilton's, the coolant capacity is 7.8 quarts and you do this with the engine cold, heater controls open and the expansion tank cap off. I released the petcock under the drivers side radiator bottom and it only drained out about 4 quarts.

Thanks... Cam

Go to volvospeed.com and go to Bay 13. They will give you instructions. You have to run the engine with fresh water going in and the old antifreeze flushing out. Be sure the engine reaches operating temperature so you know the thermostat is open. When the clean water drains out, shut off the engine and let everything drain out. Close the petcock. Then add 4 quarts of antifreeze. Top it off with water and you will have a 50/50 mix. Run the engine for about 20 minutes, let it cool and check the level of coolant again.
That's quick and dirty so go to Bay 13. They are excellent
I hope you are in a warm climate. It's 5 degrees here.

Thanks for the tips & link. Actually it's -27C (-16.6F) here in Canada with a wind chill of -34C. Fortunately I have a heated garage otherwise I'd wait until spring.
