More Questionable Estimates S70

Lock Accuators $290 each (two doors won't unlock)
Driver Seat Buckle $180 (mine is broken)
New key remote $112
Engine Pad $230 (they said mine is broken)
Suspension - Inner & Outer Tie Rods $825
Alignment $130
Right Sway Bar Link $120 (they said mine is loose)
Upper Engine Mount $150
Of course my brakes & Pads (thank you everyone who responded)$980

This is all that my dealer found that needs to be fixed when I brought it in for my 60K service which cost me $1003.33 ($800 in labor). They didn't even clean my car. Since my car recently rolled out of extended warranty I have to pay attention to these costs. Am I being hosed? If so does anyone know of a place in Chicago (besides Orloff) that I can take my car. I bet my wife that I probably can find a '98 S70 with arounf 60K miles for $4000 rather get this one fixed.

Thanks.

If you need both outer tierod ends I purchased them this summer before I found it was the A frame that needed replaceing. $50 for the pair.

Overpriced hose job--yes.

Alignment $90 dealer
Tie rods --way too much
Sway bar link $30 part do it yourself

Brakes--rotors front and back and OEM dealer pads for under $200 and you can do it yourself. add $200 for labor.

Simply put, go find another place to have your work done. My dealer will clean my car with an oil change.

Howard Orloff Volvo = Crooks S70

Orloff Volvo in Chicago is unbelievably overpriced with mediocre service at best. It's hard not to walk out of that place without a thousand dollar service bill for "checking" things. I won't use those guys for anything cause they are such crooks.

You might try google.com search. Enter "orloff chicago volvo" and
search on groups (news groups). I found several posts asking for
good VOlvo mechanics in that area:

I'm sure there are more.

Definitley sounds like dealer prices as I have had the same quote for brakes and actuators for the door locks. If you are not a do it yourselfer, find any local independent shop and you should save at least 25-30% across the board.

On a couple of the items you can find replacements very cheap:
- upper engine mount is about $15 but you have to have a special tool to install it. You can instead use a urethan mount for about $22, and it can be installed without a tool (very common).

-The new key remotes are available on eBay for under $20. I haven't programed one on the Volvo, but it has been relatively easy on any other cars.

-brakes are definitely overpriced (I responded in your other post). I received the same quote from my local dealer and ended up just doing it all myself with ZImmerman rotors and Volvo pads. Parts were about $210 plus about two hours of labor.

I'm not as familiar with costs of suspension parts, but if it's like the other prices, you can get it done much cheaper somewhere else.
