Brake vibration - IT'S BACK (and which way does the arrow go on those half shims?) 850 1997

Over a year ago I fought and finally fixed this problem (a bad vibration once the brakes heat up, but not all the time) by putting OEM pads, special shims, and new rotors on the rear, as suggested by several posters. Well now it's back. It's not warped rotors, it is only occasional when the brakes heat up. What should I do? Take apart and re-pack the rear? I currently have the shim arrow pointing in the direction of the wheel rotation - is that right? I have 80% or more pads left in rear and they are OEM so I don't really want to replace those.

Are you absolutely sure they are oem? Sometimes parts houses will give you oem pads, but in reality they are still aftermarket pads, which aren't the same. FCPgroton.com sells true oem pads like the dealers give you.

I think your problem is still in your pads. Even though the store claims they are oem, in reality they are aftermarket oem, which does not have the Volvo tag on it.

I have only once used aftermarket oem pads to find they vibrate as you say only to replace them with true Volvo pads which work perfect--except for the dust, which is life.

Good question. Unfortunately I'm certain they are OEM because I bought them at the dealer since I was in a hurry. I say unfortunately because now I don't know what to do except perhaps pull apart and re-install just for practice!

How many sets of pads are on the disks? You should replace the disks after two sets of pads.

I had the exact same problem, I replaced the disk and used OEM pads. About 1 yr later the squeal came back. I fixed the problem using anit-vibration shims with a good coating of SPRAY on anti-squeal from permatex. Let it dry before reassembly. 10 moths sofar, and no squeal.I have 850, 740 and V70 wangons. I have the problem only with the 850, go figure? Hop this helps.

I just checked my records and I replaced the rear pads and rotors with OEM 15,000 miles ago (18 months). I guess I will just take apart, reassemble with Permatex.
I haven't seen the spray on. I think I tried to red (blue?) tube stuff before. What is it called exactly?
Thanks.
