squealing brakes 850

my aunt has a 1995 855 waon and it had a brake job done over the summer and the squealing has gotten progressively louder over the past 2 months. we had pads in july an changed the rotors too in novemenber. but it still squeals. what can be the cause of all this can it be the calipers of bad rotors? or even bad pads? everything is new except the calipers.

thanks

Volvos are very sensitive to the brake pad type. Unless you use OEM pads, you run the risk of squeeling. Your generic semi-metallics will guarantee this. I have used Raybestos Quiet Stops (ceramic/copper compound) and found them not to squeel when using new rotors (BTW, never have volvo rotors resurfaced as they will warp for sure). OEM's work great, but they dust up a lot...the Raybestos' don't dust very much.

Just use OEM Volvo pads and your problem with stop. BUT, make sure they are "Volvo" pads and not oem aftermarket without the Volvo name on them.

How about the Semi-metallic and Premium(or deluxe i'm not sure) Brake pads that IPD Sells in their catalog? Are they recommended, because I have the same squealing brake problem. And my mechanic said the brakes are brand new (I just got the car over the summer used). I'm guessing the previous owner put new generic brake pads on before selling it to me. The squealing has got to go, I hate braking for that reason. I feel like Odysseus sailing by the Island of the Sirens.

Yes the brakes maybe brand new, but they can still squeal.

Volvo OEM dealer pads are made of a softer compound than that of aftermarket pads, thus the squeal. You can also make sure that your mechanic put in the correct shims and stop squeal--basically glue(permatex @$1 per side of car) on the shims to make them adhere to the back of the pad. Sometimes you may have the correct pads but didn't get those shims glued up properly.
