activating/deactivating alarm siren in '99 V70R? V70-XC70

Is there a trick to enabling or disabling the optional backup siren in the V70's alarm system? The siren is installed, and appears to be connected, but never sounds -- not when the panic button is engaged nor when the alarm is activated (not sure if it's supposed to chirp when the remote is used to lock/unlock the car or not...).

I bought this car used and have gone through the manual and can't find anything about this. Is this siren even supposed to chirp when the remote is used to activate/deactivate the alarm?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

"backup siren" ?

There is one siren mounted to the firewall and the only time that it should make noise is when the alarm goes off (triggered). You can test it by locking the doors with the drivers window opened and reach inside to open the door, the alarm siren should sound. It's turned off by cycling the key in the LF door lock.

Hmm. Thanks. I'll give that a try, but the only sound I've ever heard the alarm make appears to be coming from the dual horns in front of the radiator, not from the siren mounted to the firewall.

My owner's manual specifically mentions a backup siren on multiple pages.

Thanks again, Frank.

In the US, I know that there is no "backup siren" anywhere on that car. If you're thinking of the backup alarm systems that are now used by new ('03 on up)Volvos (optional) and other makes, perhaps '99 Volvos used that in other countries then? I'm assuming that you're in the US?
