$900 for a set of self-leveling shocks?? Help, please! 850

Phoned Volvo in Houston (1-800-468-0041) that have the cheapest parts prices I have found to date, and was told a set of self-leveling shocks for my 97 850 wagon would cost around $900. Several years ago I talked with Volvo about the self-leveling system they offered as an accessory when you were towing a heavy load, and at that time I recall a figure that was several hundred dollars. Nothing at all like the above figure. Additionally, they said the dash switch space just to the left of the steering column was reserved for this accessory. You could switch it on/off. The self-leveling shocks though, did not need to be switched on or off. Could somebody help me out please, and let me know what the old system was/is called, whether still available, and, failing that, if there is a cheaper source than Volvo for those self-leveling shocks. Many thanks in advance for any help.

they are not cheap...but for 900...u might as well get a set of fully uprated struts and novimats from kalmar union in uk... btw, the self leveling shocks are called novimats...

shouldn't there be a huge volvo following in sweden that would be more able to help u with the automotive lighting laws in scandanavia? just wondering... cause them hid are now illegal to sell and was always illegal to retrofit on older cars.

$900 probably buys you a pair of Nivromats but they're not electronically controlled, they're totally self-contained.
What do you haul that you might need those? Most cars do fine with stock or HD springs and I'd think that IPD would sell HD rear springs for an 855.

The 850 is in Norway, and I want to install HID lights on it because I'm 64 and my eyesight is failing. I don't know if they are street legal in Norway (I put a post regarding this on the Brickboard, but no one has responded so far), but Norwegian traffic control laws are Draconian if you break one. I'm always hauling a full load of God knows what between my wife's home in Grimstad and my mother-in-law's in Sando, and if I had HID's and no self-leveler in the car, I would blast people off the highway. Ergo, the need for leveling the car when under load. Just a matter of self-preservation from the norsk politi, who can arbitrarily pull you off the road and go over your car with a fine-tooth comb. And they are very unforgiving. They would ticket a blind man for jaywalking.

        The plot thickens..... 850

Getting older myself yet with an even older Volvo, I too would like HIDs in my old 745T BUT WAY too much money. I did upgrade my OEM sealed beams to a seemingly better type but the low beams are still not ideal at night on dark roads for me.

There might not be anyone here who knows about how exactly to do what you're asking here but I am sure that someone, somewhere can do all that and it won't come cheaply.

To be completely honest, if you can afford it and night vision is THAT important to you, you might be best to trade your car in for a newer model that already has all those features (at least they do in the US). You could spend alot of money trying to do all that with an older car and still not have great results, not worth what it might cost not to mention possible added electrical issues from adding HIDs.
