S70 versus S60 S60

Hello All

I am looking into switching from my current 98 S70 to a 2001 S60.

Both are base models which is perfect for my use.

However, i would like to know how does a S60 compare in quality and reliability to an S70.

Volvo refined their 850 and fixed all of their past issues and made a nice reliable S70. The S60 is new.......... and i would like to know how these S60's are doing in the high mileage zone....

My current S70 has 111,000 reliable miles and no major issues or complaints............

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.....

What can i expect from a S60 with 67000 miles?????

    S70 versus S60 S60

I traded in my '98 S70 GLT on a '01 S60 2,4T. Both bought new and here are my observations. The 5 cylinder engines are basically alike so reliability should be the same. The S60 rides a lot better (in my case that means softer). Some people like the firm ride but I didn't like that about the S70. Even with the optional 17" wheels on my S60 it rode better. The S70 had less front seat room but more rear seat room than the S60 but I don't usually carry passengers in the rear I didn't care. The opposite for the S60-more front seat room and less rear seat room. The rest of the car is about the same but I liked the styling better on the S60 (subjective, of course). I also like the idea of the side curtain airbags on the S60. Some people didn't care for the Geartronic 5 speed tranny but I love it. Smooth shifting along with a manual over-ride when I feel "sporty".
    Hope this helps.

    S70 versus S60 S60

I own a S60 2001 140 HP. 2001 is the first MY and that's what I experienced. A lot of relatively simple problems all fixed by the dealership under warranty. So when you purchase a used S60, all those problems have likely been fixed by the previous owner. To mention a few:

    - lot of s/w upgrades (ECM and ETM)
    - new foam isolation of right mirror to reduce wind noice
    - heat shield/ exhaust mounting to avoid resonance (@2900 rpm)
    - head light venting
    - door locks
    - whiper adjustment/ new whiper type
    - ...

Nothing real serious. Except something I posted at the "850/ALL" site December 29: "knock/Pinging with RON-95 (this is a midgrade in Europe) in 2nd gear full throttle". Have a look there.

I have 55000 kms on my S60 and I can really recommend it. Note however that it is smaller (in the back) than the S70!

    Regards,

    Dutch
