Bi Metal Volvo engines-weren't a problem ever

All "white engines", those aluminum engines built for 850s/960s after '92 are all aluminum and don't have headgasket problems. IF the "headgasket" is a problem, it's because the engine was overheated and the cylinder head warps requiring machine shop work to straighten it. That only happens if the engine is driven w/o coolant or the cooling fan fails.

The older Volvo 4 cylinder "red engines" had iron blocks with aluminum heads and never had headgasket issues either. Like the newer engines, the only time a headgasket blew was due to severe overheating.

I use to work on Datsun (before called Nissan) in the early '80s and those engines ate headgaskets, especially the cheaper 210s, 310s (same engine). It was common to replace headgaskets at 40K mile intervals back then.
