Tailgate rattles. . . aaaarrrghhh. 850 1996

Any suggestions for those annoying tailgate rattles? The previous 245GL was fixed by cutting new larger buffers from heavier grade rubber. But the setup on the 850R is different and doesn't seem to easily allow for this fix.

Any suggestions?

You have to determine whether the plastic panel has seperated from the metal tailgate, causing the rattle or whether the whole tailgate is not secure.

I bought the tailgate fix kit, which helped, but found it was the whole tailgate that needed to be secured by adjusting the fixed latch on the body.

    It's still not perfect.

Thanks. When I first purchased the car a couple of months back I noticed the plastic trim coming away from the tailgate so investigated and found broked clips. The volvo dealer wanted $80 (australian) for the fix kit and said clips weren't available to be sold seperately.

The next volvo dealer sold me the clips which found a home under the small "grills" up against the rear side windows and the clips from these were used for the tailgate - they are slightly different, appear much stronger and a MUCH better/tighter fit! :) I also stuffed the entire tailgate hollow with foam, so it would appear unlikely to be this area.

Is the adjustment of the actual tailgate relatively easy, or a dealer job?

      Thanks for the assistance.

I wanted to do it, but my mechanic happily fixed for free while the car was in service. The reason I couldn't was I didn't have a torx wrench in the extra large size. If you do, simply adjust the catch until the door closes firmly.
