Air Pump Whirring V70-XC70 1998

The repair shop said that I need to replace the air pump before it does damage to the catalytic converter. The pump give off a high pitch whirring sound that has been noisey for some time. Is this a repair that a handy home mechanic can perform? Any idea where to buy the pump and how expensive?

    Mine eventually siezed and I got it loosened up with wd-40. Removed, spray, grab on to stub end of shaft with vise-grips and work to and fro until it spins freely. Apparently They fill with water and the results are increased dealer profit :-)

    Go to Bay13 website or search this board on how to do! It will not damage the catalytic unless you let it go for a loooooong time. New pump about $230 beans
    and about 2 hours of ripped knuckles will do it!
