Should dealer pay???? 850 1996

I just bought my 850 about a month ago, the abs/Trac light was on and the left front headlight was cracked, so as part of the deal I requested the dealer to pay for these. After having it for those few weeks the tires kept losing air and the wipers were loose. I told the dealership when I took it in to have the abs/trac problem fixed. They said they would only pay for the abs/trac problem and not the wiper or tire problem. The tire problem turned out to be the valves leaking so they fixed it for $28. Which I paid but I think the selling dealer should have picked up the cost. The headlight is still to be fixed as the selling dealer was not willing to pay "volvo" prices for that fix so he had to order the part and I have no idea where he is planning on getting it fixed, although, I don't think he will ever call me to have it fixed. They also had to disconnect the radio to fix the abs/trac problem and are having a hard time finding the right "code" to get it to come back on. So in the meantime it's very quiet!!! I am wondering if any 130 point or whatever inspection was done on this vehicle and what else could potentially be wrong (mostly concerned with brakes and fluids) I thought certain types of car lots had to do certain inspections by law? Any comments or advice are certainly welcome!!!

Should dealer pay? NO 850 1996

Unless you bought the car with a warranty that specifically includes these things, you are sol. Cars without warranties are sold "as is" in most states, unless you are lucky enough to live in a state that has a "lemon" law. In those states if something is wrong with the car it must be disclosed to the prospective owner.

Why didn't you have a mechanic check the car over first?

Just use this as a lesson.

    LET'S GET SOME FACTS ON THE TABLE ! ! ! 850 1996

What kind of dealership was this? A used car lot? An new-car dealer selling cars other than Volvos? A Volvo dealer?

Did you have the car inspected by your own representative? A mechanic? A Volvo specialist?

The 130-point inspection that you mentioned--is this something that this dealership advertises? Have you asked for a list of the 130 points? Were the problems you encountered on this list? If they are, you're in luck! If not, well . . .

What kind of warranties came with this deal? Do you have them in writing?

    $28 to fix a valve stem!!!??? 850 1996

Stop gonig to the dealer and find yourself a good independant mechanic--ideally you should have had an independant mechanic inspect the car before you bought it. You should be able to check the fluids yourself--not too tricky.

    Should dealer pay?....no 850 1996

As mentioned below, most older used cars are sold "as is" which means that there is no warranty UNLESS the selling dealer offers one and in writing. Most issues then always need to be haggled out between customers and used car managers who are the guys paying for any additional repairs not listed as a known problem when purchased.

You're buying a USED car so like all used cars, they ALL have some problems BUT I'd take anything with your used 850 over what many with newer cars now face with their newer cars. The 850s are more "fixable" and less troublesome than newer models.

No---USED vehicles are sold "AS IS" with no implied warranty.

To get your raido code go to a Volvo dealer and have a tech pull a Vin search.

remove the radio and have the dealership read the radio SN to find the specific code for that radio. I think along the way the radio was replaced with another unit.

The code is specific to the radio and not the car.

Be glad the dealer paid for the ABS module repair, very expensive to fix. The other problems are minor.

Check eBay for replacement headlights glass and do it yourself and enjoy your brick.

I think the dealer should pay. In some states there is a lemon law that
will protect you, in New York state all car must have a 30 day warnanty

the best way fo assure fixing of these problems is to have had them written down and signed by you and the dealer. You really don't have much of a choice then to fix it yourself without any proof of this statement from the dealer as oral contracts don't really hold up any more. Personally i've seen too many people taken for rides by dealerships and have allways purchase my vehicles via outside means (classifides e/t/c) and have the car gone over by a qualified mechanic (full check over, including a check for codes). Just my .02
