wipers and tires 850 1996

My driver's side windshield wiper arm doesn't stay in place. I push it down to be even with the other and then as it wipes, it doesn't go all the way back down and comes back up and almost goes over the side of the car. It is raining today so any info is greatly appreciated!

Also, my tires don't seem to hold the air pressure. Is this common for Volvo? I just got the car so I am not sure.

One more thing, I am having the ABS/Trac module problem and the dealership is giving me the run around to fix it. Is this going to effect anything the longer it goes without being fixed?

Regarding your tires losing pressure. Are all four tires losing pressure or just one or two? After you fill them with the correct pressure do they lose more than 1 or 2 psi within a month? Outside temperature can have a big affect on the inflation pressure. If you measured them on a warm day and checked them again on a cold day you could see a drop of 5 psi or more. You will also notice that tire inflation will increase 4 or 5 psi just by driving on them for a few miles causing the tires to warm up. So, inflate your tires to the recommended pressure after the car has been sitting for a few hours. Then check the pressure a few days later before driving the car. If you are still losing pressure you either have a small hole in the tire, poor sealing between the tire bead and the wheel, or a leaking valve stem.

The are definately losing more that 1 or 2 psi. I am having to re-inflate once a week or so. I think I need to take it in and get it checked. I just don't want to have to pay $$$ - really short this month.

Thanks very much for your information..

Although fun and very safe, you might find yourself a little short($$) every month owning an 850. Not cheap to maintain especially as they age. There's always something "not quite right". One saving grace however, is brickboard. I for one am eternally grateful for this site.

Check the retaining nut on the wiper arm, down there at the base where it connects to the shaft, they can come loose. The air in your tires is a tire problem NOT a Volvo problem. If the tires are old they tend to dry out around the bead of the rim and leak from there, or the tire valve. You should be able to shoot some soapy water on them and find where the air is escaping.

Can they be fixed or will I need new ones?

Your abs/tracs issue is fine if you leave it and don't do anything, you just won't have abs or tracs. Your brakes will continue to function fine.
