Just thought I would share with you. I dished out the money on some NGK spark plugs (about $48 US). All I can say is WOW!!! The Volvo plugs that were in there looked pretty bad, but I have never noticed such an improvement just from changing plugs before. It immediately idled better, had much better response and from the dash computer it is getting approximately 3-5 mph more on highway driving. In my opinion they are way worth the extra money. I know that NGK had been mentioned before and I just thought I would throw my 0.02 in!

Don't be fooled into thinking that a particular brand name has improved performance. The old plugs were in need of replacement and ANY new plug, with the right specifications would have given you a noticable improvement. There has been much debate about plugs over the years on the B.B. and the Volvo OEM plugs are in fact some of the best you can buy on the market in terms of doing what they are supposed to do, nothing more. Remember, plugs have a very simple job to do. Provide a spark when voltage is applied, period.

I agree, I wasn't trying to say that all of the improvement was due primaraly to a brand. Rather, I was very impressed with how much of a difference it made. I have changed many sets of old plugs and never gotten that much of a response from doing plugs alone. Maybe any plug would have done what I felt, but I think it was at least partly due to NGK. Im sold at least.

Not to rain on your parade, but if the old plugs were really as bad as you claim then perhaps just replacing them with a 2.00 plug would have given similar improvements. Maybe 48 dollars worth of plugs really wasn't necessary.

Good point and worth mentioning, but NGK plugs are the best I've found. I believe OEM plugs are Champions. Not exactly the top of the heap.
