Does a leaking evap generate a code?

Hello all,

Just had the state inspection done a few weeks ago (it passed) but the guy at the station said that it generated a code but there was no check engine light. I am looking closely at the Mass. Inspection Report and everything passed except under OBD II and Evaporative Emissions section -- Overall Readiness Status, it said FAILED. Is it the leaking evap that generated the code? The dealer diagnosed the car with a leaking evap a few months ago.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays.

Evaporative emission system for the fuel system can set a code without tripping the engine light. After the ECM sees the fault enough times, the light will come on. The rediness code is probably what failed. The best way to make sure the car is "ready" is to make sure the inspector does NOT switch off the engine before accessing fault codes and checking the readiness code.

There is no fault code for a leaking evaporator.
