v70 2.0 2000 (belgian make? in ireland) starting troubles & Computer diagnosis V70-XC70

Continuing from my previous post http://www.brickboard.com/AWD/index.htm?id=714194 I have taken the car to the dealer mechanic. He said the volvo computer diagnosed the problem as immobiliser related. That was the only fault detected by the computer. I think that the faulty Air Mass meter was also detected the same way at an earlier servicing. Apparently the unit is not recognising the key (on the remote lock unit) at odd times. The past two days the car started very well at the first attempt as expected. Is it possible that the on board computer stores all starting faults which can be retrived by the volvo computer diagnosis program? (provided the battery is not dead). How reliable is that information?
In any case the immobiliser unit costs nearly euros 415 + tax (at 21%) and takes about 2 weeks to get in!
Your thoughts most welcome.
Thank you
James

Hi
I have been following your posts WRT hard and intermiitent starting. My V70 is doing the same thing.
I'm very curious to see how it turns out for you. I personally suspect somthing in the fuel pressue line. maybe a fuel filter, maybe a bad fuel pump, maybe a pressure leak in the fuel system.
Good luck.
I'll let you know how i make out.
Jimmy

v70 2.0 2000 (belgian make? in ireland) starting troubles & Computer diagnosis V70-XC70

Hi:
Will let you know once I get the part put in. Incidently, the car is starting fine for last few days. But I am giving more time between the key goes to position 1 and start. I do not know whether it is relevant or not. I wait until the srs? light goes off to go the position 2. Then wait until one of the last lights to go off before cranking! Absloutely no idea whether it has any effect or not. However, when the dealer did the OBD scanner, it only came up with one pending code.
James
