Looking for a used ('98 - '00) V70, and most of the ones I'm considering have the third seat already installed. As I don't have kids, nor plan to for several years, but have an immediate need for maximum cargo/dog space, I'm wondering how easy it might be to remove the 3rd seat.

Would it need to come out altogether? If so, does it leave a hole that some other part (bought or self-made) would be required to fill, so that I'd have a flat, even cargo space? Can the rear seat simply fold down to the level of the normal cargo surface.

Thanks for any insights.

    The seat can simply fold down and you have your full cargo space. The only benefit of removing is you can carry a full spare tire as opposed to a temporary. If the full spare is not in your plan, leave the third seat in. It adds to the value of the car, ot at least makes it easier to sell.

    No problem taking it out. If I remember correctly, you will need a new panel to cover the wheel well, either form Volvo or can make one from plywood, but with the later method, you will have to get carpet to cover the back. One nice thing about having the third seat removed is that now you will be able to use a full size spare tire!

      hey ,leave it in .my hound stays in the back area with the seat folded and sheds to his hearts content.he's got the water the blankets. also volvoworld sells some cool stuff for your car. if you take the dog to shows or special places, flip up the seat and let him kick back on the leather third seat!!he'll thank you for it.cuutyhunk30 '98volvo70t5m/yellow lab

        Thanks very much for the responses. Now that the car is sitting in my driveway and I've had a chance to check it out, I see how well the third seat is integrated. I should have known. Fold it down, and it just disappears -- perfect.
