serpertine belt 850

my 93 sepentine belt tension mechanisim is jumping all over the place and making loud grumbling sound. I removed the mechanisim and found that it seems to be ok. checking the other accesories I find that nothing seems to be freezed up or excessive slop in pulleys. whats up? Can I drive the car to a mechanic 5 miles without running the belt on and causing another problem? Sounded so bad I hate to run the car with the belt on. The belt appears to be in fine shape as well.     Mines more of a squeal than a rumble, buts its been going on for about 2000KM. Ive ordered the parts, but its a 40 minute 40 dollar ferry ride to the dealer to get them. Everything seems to be OK, so Im just going to do the tensioner and the belt new. But so far it hasnt caused any other problems. Parts werent as expensive as I thoguht them to be though!!

      Could you tell me that which one is the belt tensioner for the serpertine belt ? I am going to replace the belt too soon. I would like to check the tensioner to ensure that it is not starting to freeze or some sort.

        Ill take a picture for you and email it. The tensioner should be the only on that doesnt connect to something, like P/S pump, A/C compressor ect.

        When the rain lets up, Ill send you a photo!!
