roof trim 850

The roof trim that runs along both sides of of my 97 850 wagon has cracked and is starting to peel up. The dealer wants $150 for each trim and $80 to install.
Have any of you tried to glue down the trim? If you have what type of glue?
Are there ant service recalls that you might know of?
thanks bob

I found and use a product; Blackout Tape, a TrimBrite product a division of Spartan at Advance Auto. It is a pretty easy, very low cost way to improve the trim. I carefully cut it to width, in 3-4 foot lenghts, get another set of hands to help lay it right over the old trim. Yes, the old rips will be visible upon close inspection, but a very big improvement. Be careful not to re-pull the tape up, it will rip the old trim worse! The tape has held for 6 months, the car is basically garage kept. Worst case, try a small section to see if you like it.

Bob:

I had the same problem, so I peeled off all the black covering, exposing the aluminum underneath. I cleaned and prepped it, and then painted it semi-gloss black. It looks very nice and saved a bunch of money.

If you want to change the rails, the 98-up V70 rails will fit, and have the built in rain deflector missing on 850s, so you can keep the window open without rain blowing in (mostly)

Thank, for getting back. At least I now know it can be done without the $300 strips.

See the thread below under Roof strip peeling.

I tried gluing it in the past but it doesn't work.
