I have an 95 850 and my Alpine CD changer went out, I bought a OEM changer from Volvo and it has a plug for power coming out of the back with the data cable. I found the data cable, but can't seem to find the power plug, does the 850 come pre wired for just the data cable or is there a power plug that I am to blind to see?

in the uk 95/96 was a changeover year...some came prewired others did not...

the alpine cd changer uses a different wireing system (plugs etc) and a different control set to the volvo one...

you can get alpine units & control adaptors to fit the volvo wires, and also control adaptors (VOLALP's ) to wire to volvo head unit...

the standard alpine changer does NOT have local power simply a din conector the power is supplied at the head unit end....

so if you had a standard alpine unit you will most likely have a control unit adaptor buried in the dash and plugged into the volvo head, this will also be wired for power....then a straight din connector to the cd chnager...

sounds liek you will need to re-wire to fit that volvo unit...

me i would sell the volvo one and go buy another alpine....they are available new and are fairly cheap...i bought one with a adaptor a couple of weeks ago and fitted it really easily...

I, too, am about to add a CD changer to my '93 volvo, and to the best of my knowledge there is only the one data cable. Go to www.crutchfield.com. That's where I am getting my adapter. According to Crutchfield, all i need to install the CD Changer is an adapter. The website says nothing about the need for an additional power cable. So if their info is correct, that is all you should need. Crutchfield is also including installation instructions with the my adapter. Crutchfield has instant online customer support, so you might want to try to ask them directly.

The CD changer I got from Volvo has a power plug, unfortunately there are no directions with the changer.
