HAS to be done with a dealers Vadis PC and ONLY IF the original software ID part #s that originally come with a new remote is supllied. If it needs programing (not a battery), and you don't have those #s, it's totally worthless and can't be programmed by anyone.

      Just to clarify. S80 2000

      Thanks for responding.

I just bought a replacement remote on eBay. This remote can NOT be programmed without IT'S original software ID number?

      Thanks,
      Dave

S80 and 01 and newer S60 and V70 remotes cime with a PIN # with the original packaging. You MUST have the PIN# to program the remote. Thru mid 01, it was an 8 digit#. Mid 01 and on have 2 PINS, a 16 digit and an 8 digit. The remotes are not tracked by serial# and there is no PIN database.

bob's also correct. If you didn't get it with its original tag that's part of a new remote when bought from a Volvo dealer, you've been ripped off and the remote is totally useless. Even in dealers, no one EVER asks us to save those tags SO the tags just tossed.

We see this on occasion when a salesperson tries bringing us used remotes from another car. We throw them out and someone buys new remotes plus software AND the labor to program them.

IMHO, Volvo created a bad situation with this one (OK, one of many) BUT still not as bad as the newest '04 "all in one" key and remotes. Those will probably be very costly to replace.

Sorry that you've been ripped off by one of the many used remote control resellers on E-bay. Unfortunately these unsavory characters are aware that they are selling landfill, but cover themselves with the line that potential buyers should first check with their dealers knowing full well that few will do so before bidding. If you would go back and claim they knowingly sold you a useless remote, they will simply claim ignorance and advise that's why they told you to check with your dealer first. The only thing you can do is to leave appropriate feedback to warn other potential buyers. It seems that when most folks discover they've been ripped off, they somehow don't want to leave feedback , and so others are victimized.

                Yep, negative feedback! S80 2000

Being an Ebay addict myself (a buyer however), I know that no one wants even one negative feedback added to their list. The problem is that that person has two chances to get even, he can leave YOU with negative feedback or cover your negative rating with a story that might makes it look like it was still your fault. Few people ever leave negative feedback UNLESS they're truely ripped off.
With any luck, the seller gave you positive feedback already if you paid him quickly so he then can't add anything to effect you BUT your negative rating on him will definately hurt him (assuming that you didn't already leave him feedback). Even if he has some lame reply comment, anyone else can still always e-mail the buyer and ask him what really happened.

                  Hi There,

Does this info apply to 1999 s80 remotes?

                  Kind Regards

Same scenario applies to 1999 MY. No Electronic serial number code, it cannot be programmed to work with your car. Buyer beware.
