I have 2000 s80 57000 MILE
Between second and third at lower revs she starts pinking all the time, when the car is cold she has a rough idle vroom vroom vroom vroom, to stop it doing that you have to put her in Neutral and give the throttle a good plunge,
I have had it in the dealers loads of times spent a fortune and they still dont seem to be able to cure it, the check engine light has never come on,
Any ideas anyone.

Hey that has happened to me a few times. the first time it was the O2 sensor. If when you take it in to the dealer it doesn't show up on the computer then it is most likly the throttle body. If it is then it will just need to be cleaned out.

What kind of fuel (octane rate) did you use: No pinging should be present at using RON-98 (premium) octane rate. For lower rates, occasional pinging (outside of retardation bandwidth)can be audible.

Hesitation must have a different cause.

I think you mean pinging. It is caused by retarded ignition or too low of octane level.
