Service light question S40-V40

Hi,

I turned off the service light a while ago using the steps posted here (turn ignition key to position II, hold down odometer reset button, turn ignition key to position III, ...).

My question is does this turn off the service light for good? I now have about 46k miles and I was expecting the service light to go on again at around 45k miles but it hasn't turned on.

Another question, at what mileage intervals is the service light supposed to go on?

thanks,
David

    Service light question S40-V40

I am going to have to try that about the service light. We just purchased a 2000 V40 wagon and it has been on since we bought it because the saturn dealership where we got it didn't know how to turn it off, haven't made it to the local volvo dealer yet.

I am getting a little nervous and am hoping someone can help me with a few issues. I started looking around online (a little late I realize) at reliability isses with the S40/V40 series and the consumer reviews stink. Of the ones I have read, 2 out of 3 are bad. We love the car and have had no problems the few monthes we have had it but some of the reviews I have seen have made me a little nervous. Did I get in over my head with this thing or am I just seeing the opinion of a few pissed of people....

      Jeremy,

Worrying is like a rocking chair....it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere. (yes I stole that from Van Wilder).

Take care of your car. Do the maintenance exactly as prescribed and you will be fine. No matter what car you buy, you are always rolling the dice to some degree. One of the worst cars I owned was a Honda Civic, and I bought it because Consumer Reports said it was supposed to be such a good, reliable car....well it wasn't. I don't pay attention to CR anymore.
As long as you take care of your Volvo, the odds will be in your favor.

The factory default service interval - and when the light should come on - is 7500 miles. I had mine reset to 5000 miles when I was at the dealer getting some warranty work done.
