Hey I have a 1993 850 GLT with a factory am/fm/cass and was wondering if i could just pop in another factory am/fm/cd in the same year range. If so, where would be a good place to find something like that? I am new to this board and haven't had a Volvo in a few years. The last one was a 1988 760 GLE Turbo. Thanks for any help!

    Yes, you can simply replace the old Volvo unit with another unit from a Volvo. Plenty available on ebay in the UK so I'd assume ebay in the states would be the same.

    Is your unit sindle or double Din? I'd say single if it's a '93 model. If you purchase a double Din unit you'll just need to remove the facia panel to fit the larger unit.

    If you wanted to fit an aftermarlet unit then you will need to purchase a wiring harness adaptor too in order to connect you new stereo.

      Don't buy an aftermarket unit to put in the place of the Volvo unit. I tried this and looked everywhere for a matching wiring harness adapter, and there isn't one. Go for the ebay auctions...but like Ray said, make sure and have the security code or the unit will be useless. In other words, don't buy it unless it has the security code...demand it. If it comes from the owner of a previous volvo, with the VIN number of the car, that person should be able to get it from any dealer for you. If the seller can't provide it, then good chances the unit is hot....ouch! Don't touch it.

    The radios are all "plug-and-play". In 98 the 70 series have a charcoal
    gray faceplate (instead of black) so color varies between 850s
    and 70 series. ebay is a good source for used units. Just make sure
    you get the security code. Example auction:
