How many miles can I put on a V70? V70-XC70 1999

Hi guys (and gals, if any):

I have a late 1999 V70 2.5 TDI. Have 60,000 KM on it now. Runs like new.
Am considering letting it run to 250,000 KM then dump it.That is to say, keep till I can no longer drive - I'm 50 and am going to buy a Porsche 911 Targa.
So I'll use the V70 to shop, take the dogs to the Vet (both German shepheards at the same time in one single visit).

the other option is to exchange it for a BMW 530 Diesel but the rear space is smaller. I hate the new V70 - the current model. The only alternative in terms of space is the MErcedes and that is also pretty ugly.

The point is - if I exchange the V70 I get some money out of it - 17 to 20,000 Euros towards the purchase of the BMW (60,000 Euros) or I keep it and let it go.

Does it get very expensive to maintain from 60,000 to 250,000 KM?

Thanks,

J. P.

    How many miles can I put on a V70? V70-XC70 1999

    Hi,

My '99 V70 TDI has now 170000 km and runs pretty much like new. As Bill mentioned above, it is quite important that you change oil/filters on time as well as the cambelt. In fact, here in Poland where the winters are not so mild and salt is the preferred way to de-ice roads, Volvo recommends changing the cambelt every 90000 km which tends to be expensive. Of course this does not apply to sunny Spain ;-) The other element which you need to inspect every now and then is the elements of suspension which, in my opinion, is a weak point of the car (in terms of built quality it is however much better than 2000+ models - so my mechanic tells me).

So, my guess is that if you replace what needs to be replaced regularily you should run the car well over the 300000 point.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

I have a year 2000 V70 2.5 Tdi (in UK) which has done 94k miles (155000km)and intend to keep it for some time. The engine was acquired from Audi by Volvo and generally has a good reputation. Providing you change oil and filter as recommended and the cambelt (VERY IMPORTANT) at 80k miles (say 130000km) the engine should go on and on. Other problems are same as petrol V70 except for electrical ignition system which you don't have, of course. Good luck.

here in sweden a lot ( almost all of the ) taxi cars are volvo v70 tdi ...

seen cars with 400000 km on the odometer and runnig like new...

Your car will , properly maintained be alive for a very long , long time ...

also seen v70 tdi“s with over 700000 km on then , havent droven one though...

i belive the service schedule for the tdi is more "costly" than for the gasoline engine , but the lifetime of the engine is much longer...

The mechanic tells me that (T6 cars North American spec) are horribly expensive (engine and speed box) to repair and do fail a lot more than any other models.
So far I've been very satisfied with the cost of maintaing the 99 V70 TDI. I spend around 250 Euros/year, change the oil and filter twice a year, every 6 months. I'm not doing more than 10,000 Km a year and since the service is schedulled at 15,000KM intervals I simply double it up.
I've spoken to people who own MErcdes, Audi and BMW and they become VERY interested in a Diesel Vovlo when I tell them how much I spend on mine a year. They pay more than twice a year. But let me explain that I only go to volvo to get the stamp and for everything else I go to a very clean service station with people who can line up steering, replace brake cartridges (don't know how you call them), check levels, etc) Outside of fixed service at 15,000KM or yearly intervals I will only go to a Volvo station if the engine light goes on. Otherwise its silly to go there. They charge me 3 times more to change oil. and oil is the same everywhere including filters ...

Not sure if you will get a lot of replies on this since most
readers here are in North Ameria and we don't get the diesel
    engines.

I'd think the difference in price between selling and getting
another car would pay for a lot of repairs (even if it does
    break down).

Mercedes now has a fairly poor reputation in the U.S. I'm not
sure if that would be more reliable. See mercedes article at:
