Hi,

My 98 V70 tailgate is making major noises despite installing the repair kit. I tried putting pieces of plastic with epoxy on before and it worked longer than the repair kit. The metail edges of the repair kit have given out just as badly as the original plastic rings.

I was thinking I should buy another repair kit and install it so that there would be two metal pieces on each post and that this might hold over the bumpy cottage roads that I have been travelling on recently.

Any advice would be appreciated??/

if all fails, you can always order just the upper portion of the rear tailgate trim (this is the part which has all of the clips connected to it) I replaced one of these at the shop, and I believe it costed the customer $60.00 for the part. The entire tailgate would cost approx $200.00, so this is the route to go ... good luck

Why not just try sheet metal screws on the sides of the panel going into the metal door. Can't see them; works OK on mine.

Reinstall the panel using a generous amount silicon sealant on the upper 4 clips. That should keep it in place but will make it harder to remove if there's ever a reason to do that in the future.
Otherwise, you can replace the upper plastic section of that panel and add the repair kit to that too.
I wouldn't try 2 repair kits to the same plastic as I doubt it'd work well, too thick.

I have the same problem although I haven't even gotten around to fixing it properly yet. I put a papertowel roll (card board only) in there so it wouldn't rattle. (cut in half). It works, still loose but no noise. I am going to try putting some small washers with a glue/silicone instead of the sheet metal that one buys and see if that works.
