headlights vs. DRL? S40-V40

What's the difference between using the headlights (normal night setting) vs. DRL? At night I don't notice any difference. Isn't the headlights supposed to brighter than DRL? Is there something wrong with my car ('00 S40)?

thanks
David

DRLs use the regular headligt. But, the rear tail lights
are not on. I keep my light switch in normal headlight position
to avoid accidently driving at night with no rear or side lights.
Above applies to 850/70 series. I assume it is the same for 40 series.

AFAIK the rear tail lights are on with the DRL.

"Above applies to 850/70 series". Up to a point. On my 01 the DRLs are just the same as my regular low beam lights. One may assume that the change was made to prevent the car from being driven at night without any tail lights. Bet that the 40s are the same way.
