New to forum and S40, problems to expect??? S40-V40

Hello Everyone,
I just recently became part of the Volvo family with a 2000 S40. I was excited to see a forum for the car, and wanted to say hi. My question for all of you higher mileage S40 owners out there is what problems I should expect after 60,000 miles. I purchased an extended warranty with the vehicle that covers me to around 93,000 miles, but have begun to wonder what the chances of it even paying for itself are. I can still return it at this point for 100%. Any insight to common issues or weaknesses and what I should expect them to cost me would be greatly appreciated! (fyi, the warranty is costing around 3000US$ for 3yrs/36,000miles)
Thanks,
Dane

    Dane,
I have a V40-00. It has 52K miles now. Has been a great car. A few minor problems worked out during the warranty period. I have replaced front and rear break pads once. I had a failed thermostat, bad fuel regulator, a failed side marker. Replace the cabin filter every 15K miles, it will need it.
I get great mileage, great handeling. I run 4 snows for the winter and get excellent traction and control.
    Enjoy your V40.
    Craig

    Hi there,
the problems you can expect are endless, and things one would commonly not even dream about going wrong. If the 40 you have is the same (lack of) quality level as mine the additional insurance will pay for it in no time. Tie-rod ends, A/C, mirrors, tranny, seatframe, oxygen sensors, no-start conditions, brake vacuum pump etc. etc.
The car is very nice and fun to drive, but very poor reliability and initial build quality. They started making them in '96, it is sad evidence how they can be built that bad for that long....
