while driving the ac will just shut off at random times, when you shut off car and restart all is well, its only done this about 5 times this summer but it stinks having to pull over and restart car. any clues? kelly

IS THERE AN ENG TEMP OVER RIDE SWITCH TO TURN THE AC OFF,IF SO WHERE.

when yo say shut off, can I assume you mean that the AC stops working even though still switched on (the air from vents not cold anymore). When this happens, and you pull over, leave car and AC running, and see if the compressor is still working/engaged.

You may find that it's not. Try turning AC off for 10 minutes (no need to stop engine, or discontinue journy) and turn AC back on, see of works. If it does, then you need to check if power supply to compressor next time the compressor stops with AC on.

Then can take diagnosis further................

I had a similar symptom. The blower fan and the controls for the A/C and re-circulate stops operating. If you shut the car off and turn back on it will work for a while.

The problem may be with shorted cabin temperature sensors due to dirt build up. There are about 4 temperature sensors. Two of them are located, each, near the door jams behind handles, inside roof cloth cover. (Other two are inside the vent tunnel behind the dashboard and they may not be as dirty as the other two)

I took them out and cleaned all dirt off of them. I have not have the problem since.

How did you get to the sensors? I can see a small hole built in to the handles above the door opening. Did you have to take the handles off?

What do you mean by "shut off". Does it stop cooling? Does the fan stop blowing? Do you have ECC or manual A/C?
