That useless f%&@!*ing jack! S70 1998

Had a flat while traveling the other day (tire picked up a nail) and went to put on the 'spare.' I already knew that the jack with this car picked up the hole side from a single jackpoint, itself a stupid idea. But did we also mention unsafe? The tires weren't clear of the ground and the car was already beginning to pitch forward. When I got the jack out, it was slightly twisted. (Yes, I was on hard level ground.)

As it happened, a stranger hapened along who had a tire-repair kit and an air compressor. A cellphone call to my son got me the hydraulic jack I use at home so I got out of this situation OK. But a single jackpoint on a 2500lb car? What kind of engineering is that?

Only car I've ever had fall off a jack is a Volvo 240! It's another Volvo tradition! S70 1998

That said, on LEVEL concrete the jack and single jack point is pretty nice, I have an extra Volvo jack that I use for my frequent winter snow tire switches (the noise from the studs drives me crazy) and I figure that and a battery powered wrench cuts my change time in 1/2. (I always use jackstands in addition to the jack.)

I carry a small compressor and tire patch kit in the car. In addition to my AAA card. f%&@!*ing construction nails!

Where? Same place as the 'Budget 1996-1998 Volvo Service Reminder Light Reset Tool'! S70 1998

(The 3M Black Electrical Tape, $1.39)

Home Depot! (About $2.99 if memory serves.)

I have 1/2", 3/8" and 1/4" drive adapters for my old Makita. Doesn't work as an impact wrench but sure saves a lot of wear and tear on my wrists! I do the final tightening with a torque wrench anyway, so it doen't matter if it's not tightened to 1,200 lb-ft. like the tire places tighten the lug nuts with their air wrenches!

(There ARE dedicated rechargable impact wrenches, but I try to be frugal.....even if I drive a Volvo...)
