Tired of the pressure-help! 850

Juat got Dunlop Sport A2 (195/60-15) tyres with max pressure of 40 psi.
Well the rears are supposed to be 41 psi/fronts 32 psi. Any suggestions what I am to do? The Micheloin MXV had max 45 psi. Can I exceed the 40 limt? will the car run totally wrong?

Personally, I would NOT recommend the Dunlop D60/A2 tires; they are just basic all season tires with very little traction. Stick with the Michellens or go up to a better Z rated tire. I just put some Z-rated Kumho tires on my car and am very satisfied with their traction, especially considering that they cost very little. They have at least 5 times the wet and dry traction as the D60/A2. Just remember, traction = safety.

As far as tire pressure goes, you should be able to find it in the manual or on the drivers door. The pressure on the tire is the maximum.

Tired of the pressure- Interesting factoid! 850

One drawback with many sporty tires is that they have poor load-carrying capacity. This was mentioned in Road & Track a few months ago.

There are many sport tires that will not carry a Volvo wagon empty!

I'll bet that the capacity of the Michelins is higher than that of your new tires as load capacity is related to tire pressure.

Factoid - You can determine the weight of your vehicle by multiplying the area of the contact patches by the tire pressure. The interesting part is trying to determine the size of the contact patches.

      James A Sousa,
Thanks. The Michelin MXV195-60-15 load rating is 1201 lb., Dunlops Sport A2 195-60-15 are 1235lb. The cold pressure rating choices I draw from are the ones written on the inside of the gas cap door: Front 32psi, Rear 41psi (or Front 34psi, Rear 41psi). 32 psi is too soft for this tyre which is known to be quiet, and soft.
I probably need to talk to a tire proffesional

Are you reading the value off the side of the tire? If so, that is
the max pressure the tire manufacturer says to use and is a warning.
The proper pressure is set by the vehicle manufacturer. You can
find it on the Volvo gas cover. On the cover, you see two sets of
numbers. The high numbers are probably what they used when they set the
fuel economy. The alternate numbers are the real-world numbers that
    you should use.

The recomended cold tire specs (for ANY tire) should be on your fuel flap door and they should all be set to about 32 psi cold, never set to MAX tire pressure. Max mean the most they can be running at when hot and with a full load, not recommended for cold pressure and everyday use.

I don't care what car it is, most cars are fine if all 4 tires are set to 30-32 psi cold tire pressure. A wagon that's loaded with stuff should have a few more pounds of air when loaded.
