air conditioner playing games with me S40-V40 2002

Can anyone provide a clue here. Ever since the car was new, I've had a situation with the air conditioner. Every few weeks or so the A/C will stop working for several hours. If the car is parked for two to three hours the A/C will start to work again and may continue to work for a coupe weeks, then BINGO, we start the process over again. The Dealer replaced a low pressure switch, but that didn't solve the problem.

Has anyone had this problem or know what is causing this A/C malfunction???
It's driving me crazy.

Bob

It sounds like something is freezing over. Do you notice copius amounts of dripping water while you wait the few hours ?
Is it extremely humid when the AC stops working?
One last thing, does the drip tube looked plugged? Maybe the coil is freezing up from the condensation not being allowed to drip out.

I would think that if there were a software problem for the AC it would blink the AC button light.

Good Luck

Miker

Freezing over sounds like a possible cause. I'll check the drip tube. And yes, the air is somewhat humid when A/C fails. Over last few days we have noticed water vapor streaming from the vents on occasion, like the unit can't dehumidify the air fast enough. I'm wondering if the unit freezing could cause the low pressure switch to trip out or fail???

Thank for the reply.
