Wouldn't start or crank just click... 850

Dear All

Had a great run out today with my wife and daughter. Then after stopping for 10 mins for a coffee the car wouldn't start.

All the warning lights lit up and as a turned the key to start all I could hear click. Tried again and click but noticed the rev counter flic!! So I popped the hood to check the battery connections which were good and there was plenty of juice in the battery. Got back in and tried again - it started!!!

Any ideas? My car is an 850 2.0 20v. Without turbo! Could this be the fuel pump relay?

I had a problem with it idling high (1000 rpm) but again during the run it returned to normal (850 rpm). Is this related?

Thanks

CHECK THE GROUND CONNECTION ON THE NEG BATTERY CABLE TO THE GROUND POINT, SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE EITHER A LOOSE CABLE OR CORROSION SOMEWHERE CAUSING A BAD CONNECTION.

Thanks Dan

I did that when I got back and it seemed clean, I rubbed it a bit with abrasive cloth to clean up the connection.

I hasn't done this before and there were no 'codes or check lights'.

Is there a starter relay? I am thinking power isn't getting to the starter.

Once had a problem with a sticking solenoid on my 265's starter motor - I would hit it with a length of wood then it would start. Don't want to do that to my 850.

Appreciate your help
matt

CHECK UNDER THE HOOD IN THE FUSE BOX ON DRIVERS SIDE, IT IS FULL OF RELAYS
