For a properly equipped shop or DIY in your driveway/garage?
I'd call my dealership or indie and check but just guessing based on what's involved (according to Haynes anyway) I'd say 6-8 hours for a dealer, a week for me at home.
FYI, if you have a dealer or other shop do it, (IF they will as you're looking to buy the trans elsewhere) check everything out under the hood and car when they're done. My '95 had it's trans replaced at 56,000 miles under warranty by the previous owner at the dealership. (I found out after purchase.) That explained why I found cables, connectors, hoses, just about everything mis routed or not secured at all when I first spent any time working on the car. They work flat rate. X number of hours and get it out of here. No time to dress things up when done.
An added bonus, they also replaced the rear seal so the way I look at it, I only have about 40,000 miles on the tranny and seal. Gotta look for the positive somewhere.
Also, plan on a shop finding many other things "that should be taken care of" while the drivetrain is disassembled. Brakes, axles, boots, strut mounts, wheel bearings, etc. Just be ready.
