Check Engine Fault Code 612 and then A/C compressor cycling

Hi All,

Our car is a 1998 S70 with roughly 26k miles on the odo. I brought the car in for a check engine light. After being informed of the diagnosis and I had the problem repaired. The write-up read:

Retrieved fault code 612 for fuel vapor leak. Performed internal leak test - diagnosed leak from hose at evap canister for fuel vapor recovery system - replaced leaky hose - performed 2nd leak test. System passed - cleared fault code and reset light.

After the repair and after a few days of driving the car I noticed the A/C taking a looong time to cool and the compressor cycling every 5 seconds.

I don't know where the evap canister for fuel recovery system is located but is this in any way related to the A/C compressor now cycling or is this purely coincidental?

Thanks to anyone who can help shed some light.

-Brian

Not even closely related. Your AC system is probably low on freon and that has nothing in common with the fuel evap emisions system.
I suppose that someone here might say that some tech intentionally let freon out but that'd be unlikely.

      Frank,

Is it possible that the fuel vapor repair was close to any of the freon lines? Sorry but I do not know much of these things. Now the dealer wants to fill the A/C system with freon and black dye for $185.

"Is it possible that the fuel vapor repair was close to any of the freon lines?"

        ....Nope.

The AC proceedure is common and is exactly how Volvo and other manufacturers want it done now. If it's a slow leak, the charge might last you a year or 2 before the freon leaks out enough to cause poor cooling. When that happens, they'll see the dye. It's most likely a leaking Evap, very costly repair.
