Pirelli Scorpions or Michelin Synchrones? V70-XC70 2001

My original Pirelli's have about 40K on them and are almost down to the wear bars. Need to replace them but hesitant to go with the Pirelli's again. Dealer said some people are replacing with Michelin 4x4 Synchrones, 50% more expensive but supposedly longer wear. Anyone have experience with these tires, especially in snow? Thanks!

    I was in the exact same boat as you with a 2001 XC and balding Scorpions. I went with the Michelin Synchrones, ordered through TireRack.com The tire rides a little rougher, with more road noise. Haven't tried it in the snow or mud yet...

      Uhmm, I can't imagine driving my 2001 XC with tires that are rougher and noisier than the Scorpions...

      Anybody got a recommendation for something that is smoother and quieter than the scorpions but still gives good traction in bad weather? I don't care if they only make it to 30,000 miles.
