Have a '94 850 turbo with a slipping trans. Just wondering if anyone other than Volvo sells remanned trannys for the 850? If not, what's volvo charging these days for a new tranny? Seems like 10 years after the introduction of these cars and a billion of 'em on the road, someone must have gotten smart enough to sell aftermarket rebuilds for these. Anyone???

I had the trans on my '93 850 GLT die a little over 3 years ago. The dealer only gave a 1 year warrantee on their rebuilt. Aamco offered 3 years at about $200 less to rebuild.

I think I need one also. In my search thus far, I have not found anyone that
has a re-build less than what your friendly Volvo dealer will sell you.
That is usually around $1600 with a 12 month warranty.
Also keep in mind the labor usually is 10 hours total at anywhere from $60-$90 per hour. I can't afford this cost right now and cringe when I think of putting in a used one.

I believe Jasper offers a reman for the 850 for the same price as a one from the Volvo dealer.The plus side of going with Jasper is the 36 month/75,000 mile warranty. The drawback is you may have to have a dealer who never even saw an 850 working on a very important part of your car. I believe I paid $1600 for the trans at the dealer with only a 1 year warranty. With labor, a new rear main seal, and a new CV boot my grand total was $2400. Volvo warranty is only 1 year, which I used 2 months after the installation when the reman died. If you can find an installer you trust I would opt for the longer warranty. Good Luck!
