Strange Electrical Problem S40-V40 2000

I am experiencing a strange electrical problem with my S40. The clock and tripometer have reset themselves (to 12:00 and 0.0 respectively) when I have turned on the car. This has happened to me only about 4 times in the almost 4 years I have owned it. It just happened to me 2 times recently. Does anyone know if there is a short in the system, a software update that will fix this, or does my battery need to be replace? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Peter

Strange Electrical Problem S40-V40 2000

It's a known 'glitch' in the S/V40 dash unit. Nothing serious, just a little irritating.

Replacement units are available (under warranty), but don't always cure it completely.

Bye, Arno.

Peter, I too had the same problem last summer. It occured in no man's land.....waiting to cross into the U.S. from Canada...ie the Twilight Zone???? It has been suggested that very high concentrations of electrical energy, perhaps from all the hidden, high tech spyware the two governments use to stop the illegal flow of competing Maple Syrups, was the culprit! Good Luck, Bill

Peter,
My V40 00 with 46K miles has had the same problem. I lost same data as you plus the OBC device lost its data. My dealer contacted Volvo tech support, they said change the instrument cluster. It has only been a short time since mine was replaced. I think it will take longer to see if it really makes a difference. They could not tell me if the replacement was different than the original. Maybe it has been modified? Mine was done under warranty.
Thanks,
Craig
