Blistering Inside Door Panel Inserts V70-XC70 1998

Anyone ever gotten their door panels repaired on Volvo's nickel after the warranty period was up? I was told the tab would be about $400 for all four doors at the dealership.

I don't mind paying for something that gets wear and tear or that is subject to getting banged around, but I don't even have pointy elbows.

Thanks,
Bill

Greetings!

I have a 1998 XC and when i purchased it last year, it came with a 30day warranty and of course underwent a 120 point inspection. Well, upon examining the vehicle myself, the dealer did $2000.00 of warranty work including the front door inserts. One thing I neglected to check were the rear doors, and during my second month of ownership i noticed they too were coming loose. I contacted the dealer..........they were of no help. Then i proceeded to write Volvo Canada with my concern. They simply responded with saying that parts do wear out and thats why i should have purchased an extended warranty. REAL NICE! Only two months after spending $33,000 for a 4 year old Volvo. Good Luck!

I had mine repaired by Volvo when the car (1999 GLT) was still under warranty. Interesting thing though, I did not even know of the problem and had not known of any concern. We had just purchased the car (about a year ago with 40,000 miles on it) and they just told me of the potential problem and offered to fix it before the warranty expired. This dealer has been excellent and repaired several of the "standard" problems without question. I even got a new steering wheel as some of the color was wearing off, and an entire new dash as they found one of the attachment clips broken when investigating a noise.

None the less, this door panel problem is a known problem and I would try to get the dealer to at least cut you a deal. This is especially true if you are not far out of warranty. On a previous 850 I had, I had the cable problem in the power seat occur a few thousand miles out of warranty. They split the cost with me. Be persistent.

The dealer has always been quite fair - in fact, I was at the dealer this morning talking to them about a grinding noise in the driver's wheel well (sway bar link) when I mentioned the panels. It was my second trip back about the noise - finally pinned it down to the links and was only charged for the parts (no labor) because it was the second trip in. SteveF raves about them here quite a bit. I won't rave but I will say they have always been courteous and helpful and fair.

The car is getting on to 70k miles and will be due for a healthy service. We'll see if the doors get done too.

Thanks,
Bill
