Replacement Shift Solenoid? S80

I posted a question regarding a shudder when shifting gears on my 1999 S80 2.9. I just found this info on the internet:

Poor transmission shift: On less than 10,000 vehicles, the transmission was receiving an announced software upgrade (2000-01) and those with a GM (model 4T65) transmission needed a replacement shift solenoid to correct a shudder between 2nd and 3rd gear. (1999-2000)

Would someone please explain what this is? Does having a 1999 automatically mean I have the GM 4T64 transmission? (I'm out of warranty but have 49,700 miles on the car) Is this an expensive fix?

NO, maybe a replacement STH Solenoid or SW S80

Volvos S80 trans is not exactly the same as those used in GM cars so don't believe everything that you read via search online.
There IS a Volvo TNN on replacing a STH solenoid for shuddering, rough shifts between 2-3 on early S80s. There's also improved software for various year S80 trannies.
You'ld be best to explain the problem to your dealer as they should be able to diagnose, fix the problem.

    Replacement Shift Solenoid? S80

The S80 T6 received the GM transmission (it handles more torque). The
normally aspirated engine (the 2.9) used an asian warner transmission
(same supplier as in the 850 and 70 series).

    But, from the description:

Poor transmission shift: On less than 10,000 vehicles, the transmission was receiving an announced software upgrade (2000-01) and those with a GM (model 4T65) transmission needed a replacement shift solenoid to correct a shudder between 2nd and 3rd gear. (1999-2000)

it is not clear if the software upgrade applied to more then one transmission
type and the solenoids were just for the GM's.

You can get a subscription to www.alldatadiy.com for $25/year that includes
service information including the full text of all technical service bulletins.
These bulletins often specify the repairs down to the vehicle serial number.
I've found this information it worth the $25 (second year is actually $15).

The S80 2.9L tranny for use in North America is the GM 4T65. The 2.8 T6 has an upgraded 4T65HD (roller bearings for the axles,LSD, etc.). I think the AW tranny's are only used with the 2.5L in the EU

What is the part number on the 4T65HD tranny? Please tell me its 8251126-2. I had a new tranny put in under warranty and I think I may be having dirvetrain problems after only 10,000 miles.
