Turbo Indicator? V70-XC70 2000

In test driving a couple '00 V70R's last weekend, I didn't notice if there's any kind of turbo indicator in the dash. Is there any gauge or even a turbo light that comes on to let you know the turbo is actually functioning or is it only obvious when the turbo comes on that an indicator isn't required?

    Turbo Indicator? V70-XC70 2000

Volvo felt that a constant reminder of the turbo was a sales negative (customers worry about the expense of repair given their previous less-than-stellar history). Today's ECU-managed turbos last longer, and ECU management means you don't have to monitor the gauge all the time to hold down heat and detect overboost.

So I put one in anyway, the VDO gauge which pretty well matches theinstruments already in the car (also manufactured by VDO). I put it just ahead of the shifter in the center console. I preferred this to the A-pillar location. If I get real ambitious I'll add the EGT gauge to match it.

The only gauge I know of is the seat of your pants :)

IPD's (www.ipdusa.com) latest print catalog shows they have
something that will display the boost on the dash's electronic
readout. I think 2000 and up must have some sort of status display
that can be proegrammed (I have a 98). Pretty slick. I didn't see
the device at their website, though.
