suggestions for break pads needed... 850

I got new rotors and want to seat new pads. Anyone have good suggestions? Does Mintex make the Red Box pads for the 850. I know they do VW/Audi. Any brands I should avoid? Also, I assume it's not a hard job for me to do on my own, any extra advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

I HAVE MINTEX ON MY 850 TURBO AND I AM VERY PLEASED, MUCH LESS DUST THAN THE PBR'S I REPLACED. I ALSO HAVE INSTALLED ZIMMERMAN CROSS DRILLED ROTORS. THE IMPROVEMENT IS GREAT.

WWW.NEWANDUSEDVOLVOPARTS.COM PADS AND ROTORS COST ME ABOUT 119.95 DELIVERED TO MY DOOR.

Does it ever rain where you live? If the answer is yes, then don't get PBR Deluxe. See:

Jim, your advice on your page is great. I'm going to give these Green Pads a try.

I've heard good things about the EBC GreenStuff pads and some unsatisfied fellows with the PBR pads. I'm not sure about the Mintex though.

This is a good one. I replaced rotors and brake pads about 30,000 miles ago(January 2002) with OME rotors? by July I had a warped rotor and in October took the car to a shop and spent $330 on turning rotors and having cermics pads placed on the front. By January I had a warped rotor. Last month I ordered sloted rotors and volvo pads for the front from Groton. They are working great.

I recently installed Raybestos Quiet Stop pads on my 850 and they are by far the best I've yet to try for a Volvo. Excellent braking and QUIET as a mouse. On the other hand, I removed the PBR Metal Master pads after only 1,000 miles because they were so darn noisy.

Other than Quiet Stops, my second choice would be Volvo OEM pads. Many aftermarket brake pads are very noisy on Volvos in my experience.

I just bought new pads from www.ips-parts.com They have a wide selection, including the original Volvo front pads (these are the ones listed with no brand name, but just say "OEM"). They did not have Volvo branded rears, and I bought a set of Textar. Both ips-parts and people on the Brickboard claimed that Volvo OEM pads were from Textar and Dan Block, but the pads that came in the Volvo box said Jurid on them.

(BTW, ips-parts also carries PBR pads, which most Brickboarders seem to like. I wanted to use Volvo original because I got 43,000 squeal free miles out of the originals, and I saw no reason to change for a $10 or $15 savings.)

I just bought a pair of the Textar front brake pads from alloemparts.com. They came in a Volvo OEM box. I installed them yesterday, seem to be just fine. Ask me again in a month :). As for installation, make sure you have a 7mm hex wrench BEFORE you start. Ask me how I know. The installation link below is very helpful. Be sure to buy anti-squeek grease.

Also check out this thread on manufacturers.

suggestions for break pads needed...Raybestos Quiet Stops 850

I just installed a set of Raybestos Quiet Stop pads on my 850T, with new rotors of course. The Quiet Stops are ceramic/copper and so far have proven to be great pads. No dust, No Fade, No noise and great stopping power in wet or high heat conditions. You can find them at PepBoys autoparts stores, but they may have to order them for you because they're not a normally stocked part number ( I don't know why....). Here's a link: http://www.raybestos.com/quietstop.htm I think the part number is 618QS but double check. They cost about $60. Raybestos is the only company offering the new ceramic pads. I've used them in several cars and trucks and have been very satisfied with the results. Good luck ......... Mike .......... Miami, FL
