I am planning a sound system upgrade and am wondering if I should consider a larger alternator. Can I expect any problems with the stock one while running 3 amps(75w,100w and 400w)?

    Won't be a problem with that. My cars have 100 amp alternators and the Volvo has 2 amps, one's about 460, the other maybe 350? I could use a capacitor as it'll dim my lights with the bass at night if I'm really cranking it but I've never had starting problems.
