ceramic brake pads 850 1994

My independent Volvo mechanic is now offering ceramic brake pads--cost about
$50 more a set but supposedly last 2-3 times longer than OEM and less wear &
tear on rotors. Has anyone used these, and if so, are they worth the extra
cost?

Yeah I just put the Raybestos Quiet Stops on my wife's 850T and they are great performers. I got them at PepBoys for $60 but they had to special order them from their warehouse as apparently they are not normally stocked on the shelf. I think the part number was 618QS. I replaced the rotors at the same time. As far as I know Raybestos is the only company offering ceramic pads. Mike

Would it be okay to put cermaic pads after a set of OEM pads without replacing rotors?

Sure, as long as the rotors are still well withing specified thickness limits.

I've put about 2,000 miles on the Raybestos Quiet Stop front ceramic pads on my '96 850 and so far am thrilled with them. Great pedal feels, quiet and low dusting.

Yes, Pep boys in Denver carries them and supposedly they are $50 set. Discount tire also carries them.

The next time I need pads, these are what I will get. Think about it, ceramic doesn't heat up like asbestos does. They use ceramic tiles on the shuttle.
