850-R, '96 Upgrade rims 850 1996

Can someone please help me? I live in an area with numerous pothole-infested streets and have had the misfortune of finding my share of them. After several blown-out tires, bent rims, and bubbled sidewalls, I surrender. I think that I would like to step down from the 17" rims that came with the car to a 16" rim that would give me more sidewall and ultimately more money in my wallet. Can someone tell me the best tire/rim combination? I have read several posts about tire rubbing and so forth, so I would like to get the right set. Thanks in advance.

What about big brake upgrade compatibility? 850 1995

As long as we're on the subject, I'm thinking ahead to a 302mm brake disc update, and every vendor indicates that 15" rims are incompatible with them. Fine. However, IPD ups the ante and says you can't use 16" rims with them either. I'm not sure I like the idea of using 17" rims, as I live in the snow belt and drive on some nasty streets myself. So can you use 16" rims with 302mm discs?

FWIW, bricktobrick, I see that the Tire Rack has Mille Miglia wheels in a 16x7" size for $119US each. They're also closing out the same style in a 17x8" size, which allegedly will fit, for the same price. Honestly I do kinda like the idea of the 17's, depending on how heavy they are and if I can order 215mm section tires with them as IPD says I can fit, not the 205's the Tire Rack insists fits. Any knowledge on whether I can fit 215's on either 16 or 17 inch wheels?

    TIA,

    Steve-o

I could be wrong, but I think that it was the 16" Columbia's that won't fit with the 302's. The spokes come in too much or something. 16" Meteors or Satellite's clear it as you said.

I have a 2000 V70R with 302mm rotors. The standard wheel size is 16" with 205/55/R16 tires. I am using Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires and am quite happy with them. I may upgrade to the Kumho Ecsta MX or Bridgestone Potenza S-02's on my next tire purchase. It is true that the 15" rims won't fit over the 302mm rotors (I looked into this for snow tires). Tire size on the optional 17" rims is 215/45/R17. There may be some differences between the 850 and V70 though. The main problem with tire/wheel width is the clearance between the tire and the front struts.
