What is this "flametrap" for anyway? I've seen the page showing how to maintain it, but I don't understand the point of the device. Is this something that anyone would seriously treat as a maintenance item, or address it only when a specific problem (whatever that might be) crops up?

Hi Steve,

In the good old days it was to prevent flash back in the ventilation system of the crank case. It is nolonger needed these days. I removed mine about 5 years ago as there was a technical bulletin saying they were nolonger needed.

Thanks, Mark and Phil. Next time I'm in the area -- maybe when I replace the manual trans backup light switch -- I'll yank it.
