Performance upgrade options......... for non turbo models S70

Hello All

Any suggestions for improving performance on a non turbo s70?

I am not looking into spending a ton of cash into lenghty modifications but more into a "quick fix"

I know there are a ton of modifications available for turbo models. But how about some suggestions for non turbo models??

Maybe a upgrade to the air flow system or a computer upgrade, exhaust?????

Any ideas suggestions from anyone who has gone through something like this. I dont want the car to sound like a souped up accord or mazda, something simple that will give me a little extra oomph...

Not to be a wise guy, but....

    Quickest fix is:

    Step 1) Sell current car
    Step 2) Buy a turbo

There's not a whole lot of bang for the buck on the NAs, unless you are looking to do mostly suspension upgrades.

    Hey MilwaukeeVolvo,

I don't have firsthand experience with any power mods on the 855, but I live in the same city so I thought I'd post. :) I think you'll run into the same aftermarket situation I did with my souped-up non-turbo Mazda (heh) -- since there was a turbo version of the same car, there's just not much call from enthusiasts for NA motor mods. I've seen advertised probably the same products you have -- ECU modification, from $400-700; intake mod and catback exhaust. Gains from any or all probably won't be all that significant, at least compared to the world of boost.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with the 2.4L. It sounds cool, even in stock trim, and has competitive power output for its size. I wonder if the lack of aftermarket headers is explained by the stock unit being fairly well designed. Some issues that I find a bit disappointing about this powerplant are that it lacks the enhancements other brands bring to the NA table, like variable valve timing and variable intake runner length. In fact, I was surprised to see that volvo.com lists exactly the same power output for the NA motor in 2003 models. I guess Volvo answers enthusiasts' calls with this: "Do ya want the low-pressure or high-pressure turbo?"

Steve -- I wouldn't want my Volvo to sound like my rotary Mazda either ;)

      Thanks for the posts.......

For the Milwaukee, WI Volvo enthusiats i did some reasearch and called around. This is what i found.

1: IPDUSA.COM does NOT have ANY modifications for the non turbo model. :(

2: I called a local Foreign car specialist MRAZ Automotive (Brookfield, WI) and they informed me that they would be able to offer the following mods to my non turbo model

      A: Exhaust: Double tipped
B: Cold Air flow filer. K&N or similiar.
Both of the above would give me 11 hp more.

The most potent upgrade and cheaper compared to the above would be NOS!!!! The service manager informed me that he has a ton of NOS installs and does not kill the engine...... I would approach that with caution.............

Regardless, there are some options out there, if any I would go for the cold air intake (maybe) depending on the price.

I would be interested in finding out if anyone has done a NOS install in a volvo.

      Peace..............

Thanks MilwaukeeVolvo. Nitrous was the last thing on my mind, but maybe I'll give MRAZ a call after I get bored with my new Bilsteins and IPD springs....
