Re: Check Engine Light 850 1996

My check engine light came on today. I believe that it has something to do with the emissions. I dont know if the weather has anything to do with it, but it start raining heavy today. I also have a K&N filter.

How do I figure out what is wrong without taking it to the dealer? I dont need that expense.

Thanks!
Ryan

Re: Check Engine Light 850 1996

Ok you have a 96, which needs a vst (volvo scan tool) or a generic tool to read codes, you choose what and how to get the code. A K&N filter will not harm or set a code in your Volvo. I work at dealership, and Autozone can read the code, So check it out and let me know what it is, I can help you free, If I know what it is.

Auto stores in our area (Autozone) will read code for you for free. Generic code, but will point in right direction.

Re: Check Engine Light 850 1996

I would :

1- Remove the K&N and pop in an OEM filter. I have read in many forums
that the oil is messing up MAF sensors.

2- Go to another gas station in case you got a tank of bad gas.

3- Get a new gas.

wait a few weeks to see what happens.
