Need maintenance help on 99 s70 T5 S70

Alrighty, bought my wife a 99 s70 T5. Never owned a volvo before. I've always had Jeeps, know them inside and out, could do anything to them, but the wife wanted a Volvo, so... Love the car. Pretty, fast, comfy, safe. Cool. Needs 60,000 mile service. No big deal I thought, oil change, filters changed, plugs, belt. Easy. Wrong. I guess I just have'nt found my way around it yet. My first problem is the oil filter cover thingy. On like ugly on an ape. My normal oil filter wrench won't fit around it, because them swedes actually made it flush with the parts around it. I'll have to get a 'cap' type wrench for it. Ok, no big deal, I'll go get one of those. I've got my plugs, right. Ok- where ARE the plugs??! Oh, under that plastic thing. Ok. It's off. Hmmm... what's this? Oooh, the little lightening bolt symbol tells me something electrical is in there. I'm notally totally stupid. Ok, I'll get a Haynes manual before I tackle the plugs I guess. It LOOKS simple- unbolt the bolts holding the plastic lightening bolt symbol things in... but who knows what danger lurks beneath those? I did manage to change my air filter with no problems. Woo Hoo! Victory! Now to the pollen cabin filter. Old one came out great. New one from newandused volvoparts.com is about an inch longer- won't fit into housing that came out of car. Hmm... Ok, Questions- What are the steps-tricks to plug changing? How do I drain the intercooler? (I don't see any hoses with any kind of clamp I could loosen...) Any wierd stuff to forsee when I get to the fuel filter?
Thanks! Hope y'all got some volvo learnin' to share. -Ron
p.s. could you hurry? My wife wants her car back.

I second, Ron. Wife's car has check engine light on and want to troubleshoot by say pulling codes. I work on Saabs and have found that I can pull them by a home made toggle switch. Very helpful and very cost effective.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to gain "book knowledge" please let us newbies know!

    /Brian

This site has lots of info:

The oil filter is a cartridge unit. I blieve you replace the
internals, not the whole thing (less pollution, you know).

Intercooler does not need draining -- they have a small hole in
the bottom and accumulated oil is just blown out (no joke).

    Ron, welcome to volvoland.

The '99 and newer 70 series don't use distributor cap, rotor and cables. The spark plugs use electronics for firing, which are the gadgets on top of each spark plug.

Try this site for lots of info on maintenance on 800/ 70 series volvos.

One thing a like about my T5 is the ease of changing plugs. Remove torx screws and plastic engine cover. Remove 10mm bolts retaining each plug coil and pull off plug wire stem. I blow-out each plug well before removing the plug to prevent any debris from falling in the cylinder head. Just reverse for assembly. About a 30 min job. FYI - On the T5, I hear plugs should be changed ~ 25K-30K miles and use copper plugs. The higher pressure turbos can "blow-out" the platinum plugs.

One more piece of advice :

Replace the wire loom around your spark plug wires as they will
probably desintergrate just by touching it. You'll see what I mean.

You can get wire loom cheap at any auto parts store. Three sizes needed
I think : half inch, quater inch, eigth inch.
